10 Most Shocking Wrestling Betrayals

2. The Architect Ascends

The Shield was unstoppable. Coming off back to back pay per view victories over Evolution, they arrived on RAW at the peak of their powers the next night. Roman Reigns was scheduled to wrestle Randy Orton in the main event that evening. When Orton and Triple H came out with the reveal of a new plan to dismantle The Shield, no one guessed it would be Seth Rollins and a steel chair. Burying the chair in Reigns’ back, Rollins than pulverised Ambrose with several shots before leaving with The Game and Orton.

Seemingly out of nowhere, Rollins’ heel turn left us all feeling as shocked as Dean Ambrose looked that night. Tensions had been teased in The Shield, mostly between Reigns and an increasingly heelish Ambrose. Rollins had been the level-headed one, talking sense to his wayward team mates and leading them back to their winning ways.

Rollins’ out of the blue betrayal led to all three members moving on to their solo careers and stories, often butting heads and reuniting in equal measure right up to Ambrose’s departure in 2019.
