“So this is where the big boys play huh?”
The Outsiders, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, set the wrestling world on fire when they began their invasion of WCW in 1996. The angle sparked a great deal of controversy. It was initially implied that the former Diesel and former Razor Ramon had been sent by WWF to kill Ted Turner’s promotion from within.
At Bash of the Beach 1996, The Outsiders faced Sting, Lex Luger and Randy Savage in a match where they promised their third man would be there. Towards the end of the bout, Hogan makes his way down. Fans cheered, assuming Hogan had seen enough of Nash and Hall’s antics and was here to save the day. Instead, Hogan hit Savage with the legdrop and revealed himself as the leader of what was soon dubbed the New World Order.
Hogan’s heel turn enraged fans to a level rarely seen with many hurling rubbish into the ring and one even jumping the barricade. Hogan’s betrayal led to his Hollywood Hulk Hogan persona and the beginning of WCW’s dominance during the Monday Night Wars.
