10 Most Shocking Wrestling Heel Turns

9. Batista Doesn't Rip Rey's Head Off

Perhaps, after watching Eddie Guerrero make public his switch to the dark side by beating up best friend Rey Mysterio in 2005, we should have seen this one - almost a blow-by-blow repeat - coming.

But while Eddie's turn had plenty of foreshadowing (at least a decade, if you really believe that Dominick was his son), Batista's four years later seemed to come out squarely of the blue.

It made little kayfabe sense, either, since the Animal's primary complaint against his ex-tag team partner was that he broke up his pin-fall attempt in a fatal four-way match in which they were, by definition, in opposite corners.

Instead of waiting for the following week's SmackDown - as is customary for any wrestler with a bone to pick - Big Dave let Rey know at Bragging Rights, with the dust still to settle on their match, exactly who he blamed for his loss.

And yet, for reasons unknown to anyone not named Batista, he didn't take the clear and present opportunity to remove his pint-sized victim's mask, despite promising moments before to "rip his head off".
