So far, Unforgiven 2008 is the only show to feature the experimental "Championship Scramble" - a five-way, 20 minute match where unlimited falls could take place, and whoever had most recently scored one when the time limit expired would win the title on the line. It wasn't a bad idea like, say, the Fatal 4-Way PPV was, but the fact that it hasn't been tried again says something about how the company saw it.

CM Punk was scheduled to defend the World Heavyweight Title against Batista, JBL, Kane, and Rey Mysterio in the show's main event, but earlier in the event, he was attacked by Legacy backstage and subjected to a punt from Randy Orton. That took him out of the bout and left the main event as a four-way contest.

The main event proceeded normally, save for being short one man, but with five minutes left in the bout, Chris Jericho - who had lost to Shawn Michaels earlier in the evening - joined the bout as the fifth man. When he stole a pin on Kane right before the time limit expired, an unadvertised wrestler won a title from a champion who wasn't even part of the match.
