Despite falling victim to one of the most heinous assaults in company history, Marty Jannetty was almost never able to gain a proper measure of revenge against Shawn Michaels in the aftermath of The Rockers' violent split.

Placed under house arrest for assaulting a police officer shortly after the Barber Shop severance, he was brought back later in the year, but allegedly worked their Royal Rumble 1993 Intercontinental Title match in such a state that he was released.

Michaels meanwhile went from strength to strength. Jawing his way through another grandiose promo on what many consider to be one of the best ever editions of the flagship show, 'HBK' was arrogantly laying out an empty challenge to anybody who could take him on. Incognito, Jannetty calmly entered the ring and laid out a challenge a flustered Michaels simply couldn't refuse for trying.

His heroic victory was even sweeter than the challenge itself. After an absorbing main event that was just about everything the Rumble contest wasn't, Marty looked finished after a Michaels superkick until an intervention from Mr Perfect allowed for a quick roll-up. The Manhattan Center exploded for the result whilst Jannetty celebrated a slither of satisfaction at the expense of his arch rival.
