This was surprising one a number of levels. While it may not be the most memorable suspension, the fact WWE sent referee Mike Chioda home in 2011 was clearly meant to show that the Wellness Policy is something they take seriously with all talent regardless of whether you're a former WWE Champion or the guy meant to fade into the background while standing in the ring.

The fact he wasn't a top name and no one really paid that much attention to the news may have saved Chioda's career as would the fact no one has a bad word to say about one of WWE's longest tenured officials.

The referee returned to television after thirty days and while it's hard to escape the feeling that pretty much any other person in his position would have been fired, he remains employed to this very day. He also holds the dubious honour of being the only referee to be suspended for a Wellness Policy violation. Rumours at the time said other referees were "sweating" so perhaps they all partook in this certain substance?
