WrestleMania is  the culmination of WWE's entire year, the definite focal point for management. Dream matches are (hopefully) made, and the event should act as a springboard for the rest of the year. This was certainly a hope when Bill Goldberg faced Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX.

The company even positioned Steve Austin as the Special Guest Referee, helping make the match feel even bigger. Unfortunately, officials were hit with a pair of big announcements from talent right before the pay-per-view. Following 'Mania, neither Goldberg or Lesnar would be sticking around.

As soon as this became clear, the scheduled match between both men didn't feel quite as important. After all, who cared about the outcome when neither guy was going to be on Raw the next night? The impassioned Madison Square Garden crowd felt the same.

People were clearly irritated by Lesnar and Goldberg's refusal to stay with WWE. This should have been a match that helped Goldberg have a better 2004 than 2003, but his victory didn't mean a thing.

Fans callously booed and jeered both men out of the building and the dream match turned into a nightmare.
