10 Most Successful WWE Tough Enough Contestants

8. Josh Mathews

TNA.comTough Enough History: Season One Josh Mathews was on the first season of Tough Enough. He made it near the end, but ultimately wasn't chosen to be a WWE superstar because as a 5'9" 150 pound guy he just wasn't big enough. About a year after the show, he signed with WWE as an announcer. He had a really long run as an announcer in WWE starting from 2002 to 2014. There's no other Tough Enough contestant that worked for the company longer than him. He did all kind of announcing work for them as a studio host, a backstage interviewer, calling matches on less important shows like Velocity, NXT, Superstars, Saturday Morning Slam and others. https://youtu.be/KmXBOIQFhOc Mathews also became a lead announcer on Smackdown and appeared on Raw doing commentary at times too. There were also times when WWE put him in physical altercations where he would get beat up because he had that wrestling training and could take those bumps. In June 2014, he was released by WWE because for whatever reason they probably didn't feel like he was going to be some long term announcer for them. Maybe he wanted out. He signed with TNA shortly after and these days is their main announcer. He actually did all of the commentary on TNA Impact last week since Taz left the company. Mathews is an example of a guy that started on Tough Enough and was able to use that experience to do something completely different in WWE.
