Jake 'The Snake' Roberts didn't need his pet Damien to terrify the masses though he certainly helped. With Roberts, is was his often soft-spoken, cerebral promos that made him such a creepy character.

At a time when most wrestlers screamed at the top of their lungs to get their point across, 'The Snake' calmly looked into the camera and shared his twisted thoughts. His relatively laid back demeanor and sinister expression always commanded the viewer's attention.

Roberts's approach was effective and it made him stand out. Watching a vintage Jake Roberts interview is roughly the equivalent to taking a masters' class in "how to cut a promo."

The WWE Hall of Famer is the perfect example of a wrestler who knew how to strike fear into the audience without overdoing it. This is one of the many reasons Jake Roberts' work holds up so incredibly well, even decades later.
