Survivor Series 1997 was a historical flash-point, both in the Monday Night Wars, WWE history, and probably the professional wrestling industry as a whole.

With Bret Hart gone (and Shawn Michaels, soon to be injured, about to follow him), WWE had no choice but to promote young talent like Stone Cold, The Rock, and Triple H to the top of the pile, laying the groundwork for the explosion of the Attitude Era in the years that followed.

Furthermore, the way they blurred the lines between the real and the fake (albeit unintentionally) forever changed how fans view wrestling, and - as a result - we can't ever watch a match today without wondering whether one of those involved (including the referee) is about to go off script.
