10 Most Transformative WWE Events
8. World Wildlife Fund
WWF changing its name to WWE in 2002, the result of an embittered legal dispute with the World Wildlife Fund (whose remit is protecting cuddly pandas, by the way), was a pretty superficial change in some ways, since - as they pointed out at the time - all they were doing was getting the 'F' out.
But it was perhaps more significant than that in the long run, since it accelerated the diversification of the WWE product, which now has its fingers in more pies than we can count.
It was a re-branding opportunity, basically (albeit one they didn't ask for), and WWE has taken great pains in the time since to emphasise its variety show family feel, making a clean break with the edgy Attitude Era in the process.
