10 Most Underrated ECW Revival Championship Matches
6. Christian vs. Zack Ryder (ECW: September 22, 2009)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYkqPCYaWcA Much like with Ezekiel Jackson, Zack Ryder was never taken seriously as an in-ring threat before he arrived on ECW, especially when he started working with Christian. Having spent his entire career as a tag team wrestler, Ryder was separated from his longtime partner Curt Hawkins following his move to ECW in the 2009 WWE Draft. Nothing about him during his time as an Edgehead showed he could survive on his own, but to his credit, he completely reinvented himself upon his arrival in the Land of Extreme. Now known as The Long Island Iced Z, he sported an all-new look with unique attire and spiked hair, making himself stand out from the rest of the roster. Although it took time for him to get noticed, Ryder finally came into his own when he won a Battle Royal on the Sept. 15 edition of ECW to become the new No. 1 contender to the ECW Championship. He may not have been seen as a threat before the bout, but he definitely changed fans' perception of him by the end of the matchup with Christian. The leader of the Zack Pack took him to his absolute limit, forcing him to pull everything out of his repertoire in order to put him away. Even in defeat, Ryder proved he was worthy of a shot at the spotlight, later leading the Ryder Revolution to prominence in 2011 and capturing the United States Championship.
