10 Most Underrated Gimmicks Of WWE's New Generation Era

4. "Wildman" Marc Mero (w/ Sable)

Before he resorted to the former Boxer gimmick (which never really made much sense outside of those horrible Brawl For All matches), Marc Mero had a much simpler presentation. He was a wild man. What exactly did that mean? Well, besides wearing ring attire that was a mix of classic Macho Man and Ultimate Warrior, he was quick to fly into a jealous rage (again, kinda like Savage). Marc Mero is the only guy on this list who is more known for his association with his valet than for his own, individual gimmick. Sable stole the spotlight from him, not just because she was a beautiful woman who wore skintight outfits and strutted alongside the ring while he wrestled, but because a large portion of his character involved being (rightfully) paranoid about how much other wrestlers wanted his wife. And honestly, Mero played the hell out of that aspect of his Wildman persona, losing his damn mind anytime someone so much as glanced sideways at Sable. Of course, it was probably an easy characteristic to assume, since that's pretty much how their relationship was in real life. In that, though, is the real beauty of this gimmick. It incorporated some real-life shading to bring out the performer's own personality. So consider Wildman Marc Mero one of the first Attitude Era-ready gimmicks to debut during the New Generation.
