Even though most would agree Dwayne Johnson officially became "The Rock" once he joined The Nation of Domination, he didn't really become The Rock until he executed a coup to usurp Faarooq as the group's leader.

This long-simmering tension between The Rock and Faarooq, the de facto leader, created a great power dynamic within the group. At first it was just little things, like The Rock exaggeratedly rolling his eyes while Faarooq rambled on in promos. But soon the two were openly jockeying for position, making no bones about their power struggle.

This led to one of The Rock's first truly classic segment, where he gave "three, fifteen thousand dollar, solid gold Rolexes" to the auxiliary members of The Nation, before proceeding to "gift" Faarooq with a giant, framed photo of the cheesiest The Rock you'll ever see.

Weeks later, Faarooq ran down to the ring during The Rock's match with Ken Shamrock - looking like he was about to help his stable-mate out of a bind - only to flip him off and stride back up the ramp. It was a genius moment that the crowd ate up.

This feud was so great because it was allowed to breathe for weeks upon weeks, with the dissension slowly vining its way through the stable. It's the type of slow burn you just don't get that often in the WWE, and it made the eventual shift in leadership feel natural.
