Like the Chris Jericho vs Christian match from earlier in the list, this ladder match between Edge and Christian from No Mercy 2001 probably suffered due to fans' high expectations. Not only had Edge and Christian been in some of the greatest ladder matches of all time in the last two years but this was also for a major championship and the biggest singles match the two had ever had. The two had a heated and long match which was very good but probably never going to meet the lofty expectations. It was also coming after the Chris Benoit versus Chris Jericho, TLC 2 and Rob Van Dam versus Jeff Hardy ladder matches and the gimmick was perhaps over-saturated at that point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9jR4CK1f_4 The finish was suitably nasty, given the personal nature of the rivalry: Edge gave Christian a wicked one man con-chair-to with 'Captain Charisma's' head placed firmly against the ladder.
