10 Most Underrated WWE WrestleMania Matches Ever
1. Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio - WrestleMania XXVII
If and when Cody Rhodes makes his much-anticipated return to WWE, a renewal of hostilities will be low down on most fans’ wishlists. On the basis of their feud in 2011, the two had incredible chemistry.
Though it’s built on sports entertainment silliness and doesn’t get a great deal of time, there’s an argument to be made that they had the match of the night on this WrestleMania.
The bout is built around the fantastic Undashing character that Cody had after Rey busted his nose. Rhodes deemed himself hideously deformed and donned a plastic mask and Phantom Of The Opera-esque persona.
The following match is built around great psychology, with Rhodes determined to disfigure Mysterio in turn and Rey set on exposing Cody’s gnarled face to the world. There isn’t a dead spot or moment in which the pace drops, and the combination of Cody’s old school style and Rey’s high flying meshes beautifully.
Rhodes even gets the well-deserved win here, which the crowd approves of. They’d go on to an even better Falls Count Anywhere clash; the feud, and this match, needs rediscovery.
