10 Most Underwhelming WWE Superstar Returns
5. Christian
"It's...it's Christian." That, ladies and gentlemen, isn't exactly an ideal reaction from the commentary table when a superstar makes a dramatic return to the company after three years away. But that's how Todd Grisham - under Vince McMahon's direction, surely - decided to play it.
And Christian's fans have been at least slightly miffed about it ever since.
In terms of all time great pronouncements, it ranks just below Michael Cole's "Oh my" in terms of adding excitement to the product. Luckily, the generally reliable Matt Striker was there to provide something to elevate the dramatics, proclaiming, "This moment has just become instantly classic."
Aside from that blasé commentary work, Christian's return suffered from WWE's refusal to welcome him back into the big picture, instead marooning him on an island in a feud with Jack Swagger for the ECW Championship.
It wasn't a terrible feud by any means, but putting the red hot Christian into a lengthy rivalry for the lower-tier title didn't do him any favors. By the time he was finally put into the main event picture - in a lacklustre and suspiciously-timed WWE Championship reign - much of the steam had already been taken out of the engine.
