Before he was reduced to Russev's personal job boy, Jack Swagger was frequently in-and-around the WWE Title picture. It only took Swagger a couple of months to win the ECW Championship in January 2009, defeating Matt Hardy after an undefeated streak. Which was all well and good. It was WCW, a secondary title. The 'C' show. So people weren't too up in arms about it. Besides, Swagger had an amateur wrestling background and actually put on some pretty decent matches in 2009 against Christian. Then he switched to Raw and things took a turn. Swagger won the Money in the Bank match at WrestleMania XXVI in 2010. It was a formality that he would cash in his contract for the a World Heavyweight Championship match and he did so just a few days later. The upshot was that Swagger was nowhere near ready to be World Heavyweight Champion. He lacked the requisite charisma and mic skills. Was he good in the ring? Sure. But he couldn't cut a decent promo to save his life, and that really hurt him. Hey, there's a reason that WWE gave him Zeb Colter as a manager, you know. His title reign wasn't a total washout and he had some great matches with Rey Mysterio. But did he deserve to be in that position in the first place? Not a chance.
