10 Most Unique Submissions In UFC History

1. Inside Shoulder Lock Aka 'The Mir Lock'

Who: Frank Mir vs. Pete Williams

When: UFC 36

Frank Mir has the most submission finishes of all time in the UFC's heavyweight division, and fourth-highest of any fighter.

The big unit from Las Vegas was a trailblazer of his division, a unique example of how a big heavyweight can go about their business inside the Octagon.

Trained in BJJ, Mir became a nightmare for a lot of the hard-hitting big guys in his division, who simply weren't up to the level of grappling and wrestling that he brought to the table.

Case in point: Pete Williams.

Williams had one of the all-time highlight reel knockouts to his name a few years earlier, but came from the looser days of the organisation where a lot of fighters were still single-disciplined.

So when Mir got him to the ground, it was game over in the most painful way possible.

You know when a move is named after you, then you've done something right!

Mir locked in what was called an Inside Shoulder Lock, which hadn't really been seen before in a lot of MMA circles, let alone the UFC.

Using his legs and hips to press the body backwards, the arm is used to lock the opponents limb, twist it sideways and just absolutely wrench the s**t out of it in the opposite direction to where it's supposed to go.

The torque on the shoulder and extreme extortion of the limb can really be seen on the face of Williams, who was in nothing but pure agony.
