For Vince McMahon, the idea of sharing the ring with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in the 1999 Royal Rumble match was not appealing. After all, he had spent the previous year making the Texas Rattlesnake's life a living hell in an attempt to take the WWE Championship from him. He succeeded late in 1998, further infuriating Austin and intensifying their feud. It only made sense that McMahon would be scared out of his mind at the prospect of having to compete in a match with Austin, regardless of whether or not their would be 28 other Superstars joining them in the squared circle.

In order to ensure that Austin would not win the contest and, more importantly, that he would not suffer a tremendous beating, McMahon placed a $100,000 bounty on the head of Austin. Early in the contest, members of The Corporation attempted to cash in on the monetary offering. Test, Ken Shamrock, Big Bossman and others jumped Austin in the ladies room, leaving him unconscious and in need of medical attention.

But the double tough Austin would not go away that easily. Later in the night, he rolled back into the arena in the same ambulance he left in, stalked toward the ring and eventually commenced his beating of McMahon. The money would ultimately stay within the Corporation as The Rock made his way to ringside, distracting Austin just long enough for McMahon to sneak up from behind and eliminate his hated rival. It was a shocking moment but one that demonstrated just what is possible when money is at stake.
