In truth, one could make a strong argument that there weren't any particularly memorable runs associated with the ill-fated WWF Light Heavyweight Championship.

However, Taka Michinoku's reign stands out for a few reasons. He was the inaugural champ, he held the title for almost a year, and he was actually an underappreciated in-ring performer (at least in North America).

If Michinoku debuted in WWE today, based on in his in-ring ability alone, the Japanese standout would, at the very least, have your standard cult following of fans to complain about his lack of a push.

Still, it's hard to deny that, despite having some solid matches, most people can't name more than two wrestlers Michinoku faced during his 300-plus days as champion.

Sadly, more fans remember the first WWF Light Heavyweight Championship for his role in helping to attempt to castrate Val Venis, then they do for his matches with Brian Christopher and... whoever the hell else he wrestled.
