10 Most Unthinkable Comebacks In Wrestling History
2. Eric Bischoff Returns To The Televised Stage
If you think the Tony Khan Vs. Triple H war is ugly, you might not have watched wrestling in the mid-to-late 1990s.
As an analogy, imagine Tony Khan, upon the exit of Cody Rhodes, writing several comedy skits at his expense and broadcasting them on national TV. An actor playing the role of 'Carny Rhodes' is seen gigging himself furiously at a creative meeting as another actor, playing Monopoly Vince, tells him that they "can only do cool stuff like that in AEW!"
In response, imagine Triple H walking down the aisle on Raw, borrowing a fan sign that reads "Tony Con Fears Ratings!"
If the AEW Vs. WWE rivalry happened back then, that's what it would look like. The rivalry wasn't limited to the odd passive aggressive dig on TV; it was hostile in the extreme, or at least, exponentially more petty.
Vince hated Ted Turner more than he ever hated Eric Bischoff, true, but he hardly liked the man. He perceived his brash, clever marketing as a vendetta against what he had worked himself into thinking was the embodiment of the American Dream: a noble mom n' pop operation under threat of an evil conglomerate. However, since he was far more of a carny than a small business owner, he welcomed Bischoff onto Raw one year after purchasing WCW.
It's easy to be snarky about it now, but it was truly brain-scrambling stuff at the time. Imagine Triple H doing the point to Tony Khan on Raw in a couple of years, and you're close.
