4. Shea Stadium

Over the past decade, fans have seen WrestleMania move (seemingly permanently) from arenas to gigantic stadiums primarily used for football. Last year saw the high point of the trend, as Arlington, Texas's AT&T Stadium drew either a little less or a little more than 100,000 fans, depending on how you feel about the truth.

Harder to imagine, though, is a wrestling show taking place at a baseball stadium - wedge-shaped field, base lines and all. Still, that's exactly what happened at Shea Stadium, erstwhile home of the beleaguered New York Mets, at three separate events in the olden days of the WWF.

Dubbed "Showdown at Shea," these three separate cards took place in 1972, 1976, and 1980 - thankfully all in the summer months, avoiding the cruel New York winters. The first and third shows revolved around NY icon Bruno Sammartino (he took on Pedro Morales and Larry Zbyszko at the events), while the second was headlined by a closed-circuit showing of the Muhammad Ali-Antonio Inoki match.

The events drew progressively better numbers, but no more shows were held at Shea Stadium. The NY area wouldn't host another stadium show until WrestleMania 29.
