10 Most Violent AEW Wrestling Matches So Far

8. Cody Vs. Wardlow (Steel Cage Match)

It's quite shocking, really, that AEW has only promoted one Steel Cage Match to date, however, Wardlow and Cody's cage clash in the build to Cody's much-anticipated showdown with MJF at Revolution was quite the match.

The extra touch of having the match take place in 'The American Nightmare's' hometown of Georgia added something that always makes professional wrestling that little bit more enticing. Even though the inaugural TNT Champion left the venue that evening with a crimson mask courtesy of MJF's lackey, there was no denying the determination that was flowing through his veins on this night. That heartfelt post-match promo wrapped things up nicely.

Of course, that moonsault from atop the cage that you can see in the embedded GIF has quickly become one of AEW's most iconic moments thus far. It sits up there with The Inner Circle standing tall at the conclusion of the first Dynamite. When you see Cody on top of the steel structure, you can immediately cast your mind back to that 19 February 2020 evening.

It's rare we see Wardlow placed in such a high calibre match, as he's more often than not in squash matches on Dark. The Cody match was a prime example that this should change.
