For skeptics of strictly humorous Royal Rumble spots, an even more critical eye is focused on celebrity appearances.

WWE has rarely shied away from celebrity involvement. Unfortunately, such a prerogative has led to numerous less than favorable (and otherwise embarrassing) moments. On rare occasions, something like a showdown between Shaq and Big Show made for a memorable moment due to the basketballer being a legitimate athlete and sizeable threat.

More often than not, though, celebrity involvement has led to the more awkward moments in pro-wrestling history. Drew Carey in the 2001 Royal Rumble match was such an occasion when fans scratched their heads and wondered, "What was the point?"

Carey entering the Rumble didn't make a whole lot of sense then either. The crossover came as the Price is Right host tried to promote a series of comedy specials.

During the PPV, he couldn't help but eye up one Trish Stratus (yay, early 2000s). To impress her, Carey entered the Rumble only to make a mockery out of the beloved contest. He gloated after The Hardy Boyz eliminated each other, which was only funny if you hated wrestling. Mere moments later, he threw away his opportunity by eliminating himself to avoid the wrath of Kane, who didn't have a terrific history with celebrities.
