10 Most Well-Developed Characters In Wrestling Today

5. Tay Conti

As far as Olympic-grade judokers turned wrestlers go, one name stands out. But while Ronda Rousey has made a huge splash in the world of sports entertainment, her characterisation has been - while effective - fairly basic. As a babyface she smiles and strives, as a heel she scraps and snarls.

Tay Conti has thus far built herself an entirely more intriguing character. Instead of the meteoric rise of Rousey, Conti has had to feel her way into this new discipline. She has been involved in high profile matches and lost in two title shots, but she’s presented as someone who’s consistently evolving and learning about the company, and improving with every passing month.

She rubs shoulders with the more colourful and cartoonish parts of AEW’s product, but feels cleverly distant from it. While she once took on similar highly trained athletes, now she’s up against grappling dentists and someone called “The Bunny”. Conti’s booking has been steady and progressive, and winningly logical.
