Hacksaw Jim Duggan is as American as they come - hes like July 4th, Thanksgiving and McDonalds all thrown into one. He had a long run in wrestling as the American patriot and was a perennial babyface. There was never talk of turning the good old American boy and former football player bad. Duggan was still active as he turned 46-years-old, competing with WCW and part of the Misfits in Action group, battling Team Canada. At Fall Brawl 2000, Hacksaw did the unthinkable and turned on his team mates, joining Team Canada. He cut his hair, lost the 2x4 and began singing O Canada. It felt like bizarro world, to say the least. The change of allegiance didnt draw a dime, fans didnt buy into it and even though Duggan did a fairly decent job of trying to pull if off, by December of that year WCW had Team Canada turn on Hacksaw and he returned to being an advocate of the good old US of A. In a time when WCW was rapidly declining and needed fresh ideas to compete with the thriving World Wrestling Federation, taking a man who was almost 50 and hadnt been a draw in over a decade and having him turn heel and defect to Canada wasnt exactly something that could help turn the tide. It was a massive failure and seems to have been long-forgotten by WWE and WCW fans, with good reason.
