7. Elsa Doesn't Get A Girlfriend - Frozen II

Even the biggest Frozen fans will surely agree that the recent sequel didn't quite live up to the original's brilliance, though it was still a solid enough follow-up.

But what left many most dispirited was the series' continued refusal to explore protagonist Elsa's (Idina Menzel) romantic preferences.

Almost immediately after the release of the first film, the LGBTQ community embraced Elsa as a gay icon, given that she doesn't take a male suitor in the film and her repressed powers aptly reflected the struggle felt by so many gay people.

There were passionate calls for Frozen II to give Elsa a girlfriend, and given Disney's rather pathetic approach to LGBTQ inclusivity in their films, it would've been a major step forward for the studio - and for blockbusters as a whole.

But of course, Frozen II came and went with Elsa continuing to be a totally asexual character, likely due to Disney not wanting to risk losing money in less-progressive markets such as China, where the film ultimately made well over $100 million.

This has sadly been on-brand for Disney with all of their major properties, at best only including the faintest hints of inclusivity which can be hastily edited out to appease international censors.

Giving Elsa a girlfriend would've felt totally natural and organic, yet sadly, Frozen II leaves her stranded in romantic limbo.
