The feud was a relatively short one by the time Backlash rolled around, playing a part of the whole McMahon/Helmsley Era story line. It all kicked off at WrestleMania 2000 when Vince screwed Rocky to allow Triple H to retain his WWF Championship. This match also saw the return of Stone Cold Steve Austin to a WWF ring following the hit and run by Rikishi. Or neck surgery, whichever you believe. The odds were stacked against Rocky. Nevertheless, the pairing of arguably the two most popular superstars in history is something that can't be forgotten easily. The match was everything it promised to be and more. At the time, the pair were pretenders in the WWE, Young and hungry to make their mark and cement their place at the top of the card.
