10 Negatives Heading Into WrestleMania 33
5. AJ Styles’ Chosen Opponent
If AJ Styles isn’t the best wrestler in the entire world, then he’s at least a big part of the conversation. Either way, you’d be hard pushed to find someone more talented on the current WWE roster.
Based on that logic, it only seems right that as the best wrestler, Styles should be involved with the company’s top prize at WrestleMania. Instead though, Styles finds himself preparing for a 'Mania showdown with a 47-year-old part-time businessman who has only competed in two matches since May 2009.
Granted, that 47-year-old part-time businessman happens to be a member of the McMahon family, and so it could easily be argued that any match with a McMahon is a good thing, as it's going to be afforded a great deal of attention on the show. But that still doesn’t shake the feeling that AJ Styles deserves better than this—especially after the ground-breaking year he’s just had.
AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon may well prove to be better than many are expecting, but with guys like Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura and Finn Bálor on the company’s books, it’s difficult to see this as the best use of Styles’ talents on a stage as big as WrestleMania.
