10 New Directions For AEW After Worlds End 2023

5. Announcing Sting's Retirement Match

There was a heartfelt crackle in Taz's voice as he pondered never seeing Sting on the road backstage or in hotel lobbies again. The icon's impending retirement will be a sad moment for many, and there's a definite sense of finality to it. Put it this way, the Stinger doesn't seem like the kind of dude who'll crave the spotlight.

He's no Ric Flair or the late, great Terry Funk - a legend who can't put down the business they love or live without the buzz of performing. That's not to say Sting is dismissive of pro wrestling. It's simply the right time for him to step away and contribute some other way clear of the cameras.

AEW must make sure they've got a fitting final match for the veteran. They should announce it fairly soon so nothing seems last-minute heading into March's Revolution pay-per-view. Putting together some sort of celebration starring many of his old peers/rivals from down throughout the years would be nice too.

A legend like Sting merits a proper farewell.
