10 New Generation-Era WWE Stars You Totally Don't Remember

3. Man Mountain Rock

If you had managed to totally put Man Mountain Rock out of your mind, then I apologise profusely for bringing him riffing back into it. Man Mountain Rock was Maxx (god bless the 90s and its superfluous letters) Payne's 1995 WWF gimmick, and boy oh boy did it suck. Still, he did defeat Rad Radford continually on house shows, so there was that.

Payne's gimmick was that of a big rock and roll obsessed guy wearing bright tie-dye, and he would make his way to the ring playing a guitar in the shape of the WWF logo. Cool! Nope, not cool. Mr. Mountain Rock would play his loud metal and then proclaim that 'if it's too loud, you're too old!'. The more I write about the 90s, the lamer it seems.

The gimmick didn't last too long, and Rock's time in the WWF was punctuated by numerous disciplinary issues centred around his fondness for marijuana. Injuries didn't help either, but in total Rock lasted less than a year in the company. Wikipedia states that he has since threatened to release a documentary of footage he shot whilst with the company, footage of substance abuse and solicitation. A trailer for the documentary even exists, but the litany of lawsuits that would inevitably follow it mean the film will most likely never see the light of day.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
