Golberg's brilliant WrestleMania 33 send-off means that fans have largely forgotten about the fact that he beat Kevin Owens in 22 seconds at Fastlane the previous month, a result which caused uproar on the internet at the time.

In truth, though, no outcome here would have been entirely satisfactory. Victory for Goldberg means a match of no more than two or three minutes, which is obviously humiliating for a wrestler who is supposed to be in the prime of his career.

But a win for Owens would have not only killed the former WCW star's momentum - it also would have made a potential Universal Title showdown with Brock Lesnar at 'Mania, the natural end of their long-running feud, an impossibility.

In the end, they decided to chase the money by putting the title on Goldberg, throwing KO under the bus in the process. He recovered, to be fair, but to a lesser performer, defeat like this could have been seriously harmful to their career.
