Illustrative of the dilemma facing the WWE creative when it came to Carmella was the fact that she held the Money in the Bank briefcase more than nine months - longer than anyone else in the gimmick's history.

While they might claim that they knew what they were doing this whole time, we're not entirely convinced. Since winning her contract back in June of last year, the SmackDown star has done very little to convince fans she's championship material.

And therein lies the problem: Carmella clearly wasn't ready to take on the mantle of Women's Champion, and yet by not having her win the title, the company risked consigning her to the same fate as wrestlers like Damien Sandow and, more recently, Baron Corbin.

The decision they eventually plumped for - having her take the belt from a beaten down Charlotte last week - was a bold one, but she now faces an uphill struggle to win round the doubters, something that could have been avoided with a long-term booking approach.
