10 Most Notorious Batista Urban Legends

2. He Messed Up The Finish To The 2005 Royal Rumble

Story: The 2005 Royal Rumble was a huge night in Batista's career because it was a show where he was on the road to receiving the biggest push in his career. He hadn't really taken off as a singles wrestler leading up to that. It was all about building him up as part of the Evolution group with Triple H, Ric Flair and Randy Orton, who was kicked out of the group. Batista was in the final two with John Cena, which was expected. They did a spot where Cena and Batista went tumbling over the top rope and both guys hit the floor at the same time. That was not the planned finish. It was supposed to be a win for Batista. He picked up Cena for a Batista for a Batista Bomb, but their momentum carried them both over the top rope. Batista was supposed to hang onto the ropes, hold on, then slide back out of the ring while Cena went tumbling. Instead, Batista was unable to hold on and he hit the floor at nearly the same time as Cena. http://youtu.be/4QLe_tAQ2Rs It actually looked like a good angle, but enough people have come out over the years to say it was not the way it was supposed to be. The refs did a good job of improvising as did the wrestlers. Vince McMahon had to come out, which led to the unfortunate situation where he tore his quad muscle getting into the ring. He ordered the match to restart, Batista won it easily and that was that. If it was done right then Vince wouldn't have had to come out to the ring and deliver instructions due to the torn quad. I wonder if Batista apologized for that. Why People Believe It: It seemed unlikely that WWE would do a photo finish since they did it in 1994 with Bret Hart and Lex Luger. They don't like repeating stuff too often, so people believe that Batista messed it up. Should We Believe It: Yes we should. It was a lot to ask Batista to hang onto the rope like that because he had Cena on top of him at the time. They probably should have done a spot that wasn't as difficult in order to give him the win in an easier manner.
