10 Most Notorious Chris Jericho Urban Legends

9. He Left WWE In 2005 Due To Issues With Creative

Story: Jericho debuted in WWE in August 1999 and left in August 2005. Six years with no break. It was weird timing because he was at a point in his career where he wasn't really the very top guy in the company, but he was close to that level. He could work as a top heel or face and could always get a reaction while having great matches with anybody. He was also nearly 35 years old at the time, so why leave in the prime of his career? Any time a guy just leaves like that the assumption is that he is happy about something, so when Jericho left that's something that people thought. We can think back to people like Steve Austin or Brock Lesnar walking away. This year we saw CM Punk do it. In Jericho's case, his contract was up and he chose to walk away. We may not have liked it as fans, but it was his right to do it. Why People Believe It: Since he was a durable wrestler without injuries, some people probably thought that it was a creative issue. Maybe there was more to it. You never know. Should We Believe It: Not true. Jericho has talked about it saying that the main reason he left was because he was just burned out from wrestling without a break for over a decade in Mexico, Japan, in indies, in ECW, in WCW and then in WWE as well. Perhaps if he was main eventing every show he would have stayed, but he decided it was time to take a break.
