10. The Un-Americans Ended Due To Political Reasons
Story: The Un-Americans were a group of non-American wrestlers that were out there questioning America. This was in 2002, so it was a year after the 9/11/01 attacks in New York City and Washington. WWE knew that American fans were really pro-American during that period, so they used it to create this stable. The group consisted of Lance Storm, Christian, Test (all three are Canadians) and the British William Regal. They walked down to the ring with the American flag upside down as a sign of disrespect. As expected, it drew massive heat. While they did have some success when Storm and Christian won the tag titles as well as Storm and Regal, the group didn't last that long. They were together in June 2002 and were done by September 2002. Why the quick ending? It may have been because they got too much heat that people felt was a bit too personal since they were attacking America so blatantly. Why People Believe It: There's good heat in wrestling and that's something everybody loves, but when it's attacking a country it can go a little too far. Should We Believe It: Not true as far as we know. It was ended just because the group lost a lot of matches and they were only planned to be together for a short time to put over American wrestlers. Also, there were issues as far as the safety of the wrestlers. Some of them were concerned about possibly getting attacked or worse in public if the gimmick went too far.
