9. The "What" Craze Started Because He Didn't Answer A Stone Cold Call
Story: Steve Austin was driving around in 2001 and decided to call up his buddy Christian. As the story goes, Christian couldn't answer because he was in the gym. Austin ended up leaving this long voicemail message where he was simply entertaining himself by yelling "WHAT?" after everything he said. Later that day, Christian asked Steve what was up with the message. Steve said he was just joking around. A few month later during Austin's run as an entertaining heel, he started doing the "what" in the ring. It's over 13 years later and there are still fans that shout "what" at people when they're doing promos. Why People Believe It: This is a story that has been told by Christian on an Austin DVD, so it's not like it is some backstage speculation. Should We Believe It: Yes it's true. They could be working us, but they are probably telling a true story. Whether you like the "what" craze or you hate it, just remember that without Christian it probably never would have happened.
