10 Most Notorious Ric Flair Urban Legends

6. He Was Fired By WWE In 1993

Story: Flair signed with WWE for the first time in August 1991 when he was still the NWA World Champion as they transitioned into becoming WCW. In January 1993, Flair lost a Loser Leaves WWE Match to Mr. Perfect that marked his end in WWE. If you watched WWE at the time, you might have wondered why was he only there for a year and a half? During his initial run, Flair won the WWE Title two times, wrestled most of WWE's biggest names and was unquestionably one of the biggest stars in the business. It didn't seem right that he would just leave when he was on top. The most common story about it is that he just wanted to go back to WCW and Vince McMahon let him, which is actually pretty weird because Vince could have used him at a time when the WWE roster was weak. Flair was most known as a NWA/WCW guy and when he left in 1991 it was because of issues with management. By the time he went back in 1993, management had changed and he was also put in a more favorable position, so he likely felt more comfortable there. Was he fired or did he quit? Everybody has different opinions on it. Why People Believe It: He was one of the biggest stars in WWE in 1992, then he was gone in 1993. It didn't make sense at all. Should We Believe It: No. He wasn't fired. It was his choice to leave. It would have been interesting if Vince McMahon didn't allow him to just walk away, but he did. Flair didn't return to WWE until late in 2001 after WWE purchased WCW.
