7. Kaitlyn Lost The Divas Title After Upsetting Stephanie Backstage

Story: Kaitlyn was a promising young diva that left WWE in July 2014 after only four years in the company. She had one Divas Title reign that lasted from January 2013 to the June 2013 PPV called Payback when her former best friend AJ Lee beat her to win the title. On the June 17, 2013 edition of Raw, AJ was celebrating her new Divas Title as she bragged about how she was a role model for women everywhere. Stephanie McMahon showed up to confront her and warn her about what she was saying. Kaitlyn appeared during the segment, interrupted Stephanie and then was told by Stephanie that it was in her best interests to never interrupt her again. According to a report in the Wrestling Observer at the time, that remark by Stephanie was because someone (presumed to be Kaitlyn) approached Stephanie backstage while Stephanie was talking to someone else and it caused a scene. This took place a few weeks before Stephanie's on air interruption comment and also before Kaitlyn dropped the Divas Title to AJ. There are people that believe that Kaitlyn only lost the Divas Title because of the backstage incident rather than for a storyline reason. Why People Believe It: Look at the timing of it. Kaitlyn was the Divas Champion. She apparently upset Stephanie by interrupting her and then when Kaitlyn was in a match with AJ for the Divas Title at Payback, it was AJ that left with the gold. Kaitlyn never won the Divas Title again. Should We Believe It: It seems like there could be some validity to this one although it's not one that I would believe 100%. Kaitlyn was Divas Champion for 153 days (five months) and it was time to put the title on AJ Lee because she was ready for it. AJ went on to hold it for nearly a year. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn "retired" when she was only 27 years old. Maybe she did have heat with Stephanie, but it was also a case of it being the right time for a title change.
