10 Obscure WWE King Of The Ring Facts

10. Providence, Rhode Island Is The Unofficial Home Of The Tournament

Randysavage When it was announced that WWE's Summerslam show was taking place in New York this year, a lot of fans rejoiced at the news. Previously, it was the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California that was the host venue for the event, taking in 6 consecutive Summerslam cards. Incredibly, this isn't the first time that WWF/WWE has decided to camp out in one venue, the same thing happened with the King Of The Ring. The 1997 edition of the event was the fifth in total to be held at the then-Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Now known as the Dunkin' Donuts Center, the arena was first enlisted for the King Of The Ring in 1987, going on to hold each subsequent special event right up until 1991. From there, the company would move the live attraction to Dayton, Ohio in 1993, missing 1992 out entirely. In 1997, the King Of The Ring took place from the building for the fifth time, but the first on Pay-Per-View, and has hosted more King Of The Ring events than any other arena.
