10 Observations From Attending WWE Glasgow Live
8. Opening Up With Babyface vs. Babyface Was A Strange Decision
Asuka vs. Mickie James was the first match out on the show, and it left even young children feeling a little confused. With no obvious villain to direct their abuse at, the action fell flat and the talent found it difficult to provoke a reaction. Babyface vs. babyface was a poor choice of opener, but maybe had something to do with Emma's release.
The much more logical decision would have been sending the Intercontinental Title bout out first. Matt Hardy would have received a thunderous ovation and set the tone for the rest of the night. On that note, The Miz was super-over as a cowardly heel. That kind of dynamic was clearly what the audience craved.
Asuka vs. James didn't satisfy that need to boo the baddie and cheer the hero. It's curious that WWE didn't put someone like Alicia Fox in Mickie's place. Had they done so, the match might have been greeted with more interest from a crowd desperate to make noise.
