10 Observations From Attending WWE SummerSlam 2016 Live

6. The Annual Show

Last year, SummerSlam celebrity guest Jon Stewart was well-received by the Brooklyn crowd. Not only was his interplay with Mick Foley early in the show amusing, but when he cost John Cena a match with Seth Rollins, he endeared himself to the smarks in attendance.

This year, though, the crowd wasn't as into Stewart. After a promo where he acknowledged that his attack on Cena last year made no sense, he introduced the WWE Tag Team Title match between The New Day and The Club. That bout was an above-average match, but it ended up turning into a backdrop for some media attention.

Once again, Stewart got involved, distracting The Club when they attempted to pin Kofi Kingston. The Club then tried to subject the former Daily Show host to a ringpost-based assault, but the returning Big E made a comeback, drawing the disqualification but popping the crowd.

Stewart is a real-life wrestling fan whose familiarity with the product makes him a refreshing guest star, but this wasn't as memorable an appearance as last year's. If he comes back in 2017, hopefully the company comes up with something better for him to do.
