10 Odd One Out Wrestling Champions
5. David Arquette
In 2000, WCW was on its knees, grounded by a flurry of bad creative choices and the misuse of talent. However, the tainted beyond repair WCW World Heavyweight Championship was the bow on top of the company's corpse when it was delivered to Titan Towers.
The tarnished championship can not of course be blamed on a single person, yet, there is a definitive point that tipped the balance from remediable to last rites; when David Arquette went from promoting Ready to Rumble, a wresting themed movie, to becoming a World Champion in a major wrestling promotion. While wrestling fans could've been happy for fellow wrestling fan Arquette winning WCW's main prize, it came at severe cost to the company's product and fan's enjoyment.
Just a year prior, the strap was around the waists of heavy hitters such as Sting, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, and Ric Flair; even if these reigns were far from the most successful of these wrestlers' storied careers.
The WCW World Heavyweight Championship wouldn't have to wait too long for further disgrace. Mere months after Arquette dropped the title, Vince Russo staked a brief claim on WCW's top prize, quickly passing he belt on to Vacant.
