10 One-Off Wrestling Tag Teams We Wanted More Of
9. Asuka & Shayna Baszler
Asuka versus Shayna Baszler. Those four words alone can take a fan's money so quickly you'd think WWE had it on direct deposit. Teaming up to the two of them to take on the rest of the women's division? That's an equally appealing concept.
On the one hand, you have a world-class women's wrestler in Asuka, and on the other, you have Shayna Baszler, a legit bad*ss when you consider her MMA background and dominance in NXT.
Ever since the two women crossed paths, they've been across the tracks from each other. Considering their ongoing competitiveness and the considerable fanfare, one would imagine if the two were ever to pair up, WWE would do everything possible to make that money.
Instead, when Asuka and Baszler finally tagged up on the 17 August 2020 edition of Raw, it was largely a throwaway match.
Early on, Nia Jax knocked down Baszler, leaving Asuka to handle both Sasha Banks and Bayley. Baszler shook off the assault in time to rescue her partner when the numbers game caught up and ultimately tapped out Bayley for the win.
Although this match gave Baszler a new feud that eventually led to a Women's Tag Team Championship reign and Asuka would go on to face both opponents for both women's titles at the following PPV, the way two were in sync during the bout and matched each other's styles with strong strikes and submissions left many asking for more.
