WWE: 10 Opponents For Brock Lesnar’s Traditional Extreme Rules Appearance
2. John Cena
The greatness of the actual match notwithstanding, Brock Lesnar's fight (and it wasn't a wrestling match, it was a fight) with John Cena at Extreme Rules 2012 didn't make a lot of sense. Here you have the returning Beast Incarnate, challenging the WWE posterboy in a match that tailored to Lesnar's strengths. The two engaged in a classic war, but the decision for Cena to go over left many scratching their heads. Why pay Brock a truckload of money only to have him lose his first time out? Add to that Cena's no-sell of the beatdown he received and the lack of any follow up and the entire thing felt like a wasted opportunity. It's hard to understand why WWE thought it necessary to quickly move on from that rivalry while dragging Brock's program with HHH on. Actually, no it isn't, because HHH. You don't need much story for this one. Just two men who want to be the best revisiting their battle from two years ago in the same setting where they last crossed paths. The only question is could they top the first encounter?
