7. Chris Jericho Vs John Cena (WWE Survivor Series 2008)

In something of a deflating end to a transcendent year for Chris Jericho, a routine loss to returning hometown star John Cena made put him in just about the worst spot a World Heavyweight Champion can occupy - a passenger in their own title defence.

’The Champ’ being back and Survivor Series being in Boston elevated the hype, but neither of those things needed Jericho, which couldn’t be said for WWE that year.

A truly legendary series with Shawn Michaels had been so spectacular that ‘HBK’ had found much of the old sparkle in his new self, Jericho himself had been reborn when he needed it most, and the World Heavyweight Championship had been placed where it belonged - in the series packing the most punch.

Cena almost scanned as a ringer in that respect, and the routine match they had on the night was filled with the of-the-time mundanities Jericho had grafted all year to avoid.

Never bad but never good, this was Super-Cena formula in Super-Cena era. Amidst all the bravado and bluster going into the show, Jericho’s only job on the night was to be the latest warm body.
