10 Past WrestleMania Main Events Worse Than Reigns Vs. Triple H
2. The Undertaker Vs. Sycho Sid - WrestleMania 13
The WWE championship was passed around more times than one of Godfather's hos in early 1997, changing hands four times in the span of a few weeks before coming to rest in the hands of Sycho Sid. A giant of a man who was incredibly over with fans, for whatever reason, he was in the middle of the hottest period of his career. The problem? His character was not nearly as interesting by the time WrestleMania 13 was upon us as his peers. Stars like Bret Hart and Steve Austin were far more intriguing than Sid's loony "Sycho" character, and his top contender was not much better. As awesome and popular as Undertaker was, he had not undergone the evolution of his character that would eventually help him to stay relevant throughout the Attitude Era. Add to that the fact that no one really knew why The Phenom was dubbed the top contender to the WWE Championship and fans had a main event match for WrestleMania that felt more thrown together than the superbly built battle between Hart and Austin on the undercard. The foregone conclusion finish did little to help matters. Everyone knew Undertaker was going to win the title as a way of thanking him for his hard work and dedication since his last championship win six years earlier. Thus, fans had no real reason to be invested in the slow, plodding battle of the super heavyweights. At a time when everyone constantly complains about the idea of Roman Reigns vs. Triple H headlining the biggest event of the year, at least it has months of story behind it and was not put together as a result of having nothing else better to put in that spot.
