10 Past WrestleMania Main Events Worse Than Reigns Vs. Triple H
3. Hulk Hogan vs. Sid Justice - WrestleMania VIII
Hulk Hogan was supposed to face Ric Flair in the main event of WrestleMania VIII in 1992, a match that had been a decade in the making. The two industry giants would wage war in Indianapolis' Hoosier Dome in one of the biggest bouts ever promoted. It would bring together the lead star of Vince McMahon's WWE and the standard bearer for professional wrestling under both Jim Crockett Promotions and WCW. The biggest stars of their generations, they would captivate the audience with one of the most important showdowns ever. What it was, in reality, was the greatest tease in WrestleMania history. For whatever reason, be it disappointing houses for the live event matches or Hogan's unwillingness to do the job for The Nature Boy, the match was scrapped and fans were handed Hogan vs. Sid Justice as its replacement. Just as Sid was finally getting over as a main event babyface whose popularity rivaled that of The Hulkster's, he was turned heel and programmed against the red and yellow-wearing hero. There was no real story behind them, other than the fact that Hogan had eliminated Justice from the Royal Rumble match and cost him the WWE Championship, and the result was monumental disappointment. No one cared about their narrative. What they wanted to see was a war to settle the argument once and for all: who was the real world's champion. What they got was a popcorn fart of a match that still ranks as one of the worst main events in WrestleMania history, both on paper and in execution.
