10 Past WrestleMania Main Events Worse Than Reigns Vs. Triple H

8. John Cena Vs. The Rock - WrestleMania 29

The Rock and John Cena set box office records with their first WrestleMania encounter in 2012, but a sour taste was left in the mouths of fans when it was announced that they would do battle for a second consecutive year, in the most important match of the night. After all, the first encounter was sold to fans as a "Once in a Lifetime" experience. Never before had the two generational icons battled and never again would they. Except, you know, dollar signs reigned supreme and Vince McMahon betrayed the audience. His promises he year before were hollow because he turned right around and booked the match again, this time without the epic story behind it. 80,000-plus fans filed in to MetLife Stadium in suburban New York City for a match that never should have happened, that lacked the special feel that the original had. With no animosity between the two, not a single shred of doubt that anyone minus Cena was leaving with the WWE Championship and his win back from the previous year, there was no reason to be excited or even the slightest bit interested in the match. The fact that The Rock suffered an injury early in the contest, and the two resorted to trading finishers back and forth until Cena won a nondescript battle that was nowhere near the quality of the original, was fitting.
